EL BACKSTAGE
Llegué a un imponente Hall de Park Avenue Armory en el Upper East Side. Lo siguiente fue una muestra más de la excelente organización de los desfiles norteamericanos: me recibió amablemente una PR Manager y así, cada invitado a backstage tenía a alguien que lo recibía especialmente, guiándote hasta donde estaban preparando el desfile.
I arrived at an imposing Hall of Park Avenue Armory on the Upper East Side. The following was a display of the excellent organization of the North American runways: a PR Manager welcomed me kindly. Every backstage guest had a special host, who guiding him or her until where the runway was being prepared was located.
Adentro de mi primer backstage, las cosas pasaban rápido; a modelos las maquillabajan y peinaban a la vez, habían otras listas, otras esperando a ser maquilladas, además de un buffet de brunch americano para toda la prensa y para las personas que trabajaban tras bambalinas. Todo súper organizado, sin dejar ningún detalle al azar, ni siquiera la amabilidad incluso de parte de los ocupadísimos make up artist, de las modelos, personal de la marca y guardias. Un trabajo frenético, pero aun así ordenado, todo dentro de tiempo. Tal vez les parezca que todo lo que acabo de comentar es como obvio, pero pucha que se echa de menos a veces en nuestro país este nivel de organización y por sobre todo, de amabilidad y profesionalismo (me carga ver el vaso medio vacío de las cosas, pero realmente me impactaron estos detalles que deberían ser un dado de cualquier evento de moda de renombre).
Inside my first backstage, things happened quickly: Models had their makeup and hair done at the same time, others were ready, yet others were waiting to be readied. There was an American brunch buffet for all of the press and the people who worked behind the scenes. Everything was super organized, without leaving one detail to chance. Even the makeup artists, the models, and the guards, all with their hands full, were so nice. It was a frantic yet organized work, all finished with perfect timing.
Después, había una fila de unas 15 personas listas para entrevistar a Tommy en persona, quien llegó totalmente a tiempo. Una vez más, me impresionó la amabilidad y cercanía del diseñador. Atendió a cada uno de los periodistas con igual dedicación, permitiendo que lo fotografiáramos todos sin problema mientras daba sus entrevistas. Nada de divismos ni burocracia, solo profesionalismo de su parte.
Afterwards, there was a line of some 15 people ready to interview Tommy in person, who arrived completely on time. Once more, I was impressed by the kindness and the welcome disposition of the designer. He attended each and every one of the journalists with equal dedication, permitting us all to photograph him without problem while he answered the questions being fielded at him. There was nothing of divisions nor bureaucracy – just professionalism from him.
Luego, vino el ensayo de las modelos y fue cuando al fin pude observar con detalle el escenario… casi me morí! Quede literalmente boquiabierta jajajaja! El desfile se desarrolló en un espacio gigantesco ambientado como un estadio de fútbol americano. Tanto las gradas, como los marcadores y el piso hacían referencia a la marca, de una forma totalmente innovadora y majestuosa. Ni se como pasó el tiempo y ya habían abiertos las puertas a los invitados, así que me dirigí a mi asiento, nuevamente escoltada personalmente por una PR manager, dejé mis cosas y no pude evitar ir a darme una vuelta mientras llegaban los primeros invitados.
Later came the testing of the models, and when I could finally observe the scene in detail, I almost died! I was literally with my mouth open, gasping. The runway took place in a gigantic space set up like American Football stadiums. Every step, including the curtains and the floor, all referred to the brand, in a completely innovative and majestic way. I have no idea how the time passed and yet the doors were already opening to guests, so I went to my seat – again, personally escorted by a PR Manager. I left my things and couldn’t avoid going to turn myself around as the first guests arrived.
ALGUNAS PERSONAS QUE CONOCÍ…/ SOME PEOPLE I MET…
Las it girls y principales editoras de modas, entran igual que cualquier otro mortal: caminando por la puerta, sin ser escoltadas por una seguidilla de asistentes ni menos por un manager con lentes espejados y con cara de pocos amigos como a veces se estila en otras latitudes. Todo nuevamente, con este aire de cercanía y normalidad.
The It girls and the major fashion editors entered as every other human: walking through the door, without being escorted by a string of assistants or even a scowling manager with mirrored lenses as might have been expected. All of this was, again, with an air of closeness and normality.
Así las cosas, fue cero difícil acercarme a Chiara Ferragni de The Blonde Salad, a quién saludé y felicité por su trabajo. Luego, vi a Kristina Bazan a quién también saludé; chicas, ella es lo más amorosa que hay, conversó un rato conmigo, comentamos nimiedades pero aun así, se notó su buena onda extrema.
So as things were, it was not at all difficult to approach Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad, who I said hi to and congratulated for her work. Later, I saw Kristina Bazan who I also greeted; she is the nicest there is. She talked a bit with me, and even though they were little things, you could tell she was a great person to be around.
Por último, divisé a la diosa máxima Caroline de Maigret, súper relajada, incluso le pidió a su amiga que nos sacara la foto juntas con mi cámara, cuando le pedí que nos retrataramos y a Olivia Palermo con su esposo, súper amables, a quienes pude saludar sin problema; finalmente les tomé una foto juntos mientras daban una entrevista a una niña que estaba al lado mío (me dio como lata apartar a Olivia de su novio guapetón jajajaja! Es incluso más guapo en persona que en fotos).
Next, I spotted the high goddess Caroline de Maigret. She was super relaxed and even we asked her friend to take a picture of us together with my camera when I asked her for a photograph. I also saw Olivia Palermo with her husband, both super nice, and both of whom I could say hi to without problems. Finally, I took their picture together while giving an interview to a girl who was next to me.
Una vez más y perdón por lo majadera, estas personas se destacan por su profesionalismo; entienden que son figuras públicas y por ende, entienden que la amabilidad va antes que todo. BRAVO!
EL DESFILE/ THE RUNWAY
Tommy Hilfiger es un hit cada año y ahora pude terminar de entender por qué: lo que presentó fue un desfile fresco, con un aire deportivo pero al mismo tiempo de sofisticación. Y ciertos detallitos, ya se empezaron a repetir y por ende, ya empiezan a marcar pauta respecto de qué tendencias se van perfilando en las pasarelas. En este caso, nuevamente nos encontramos con faldas plisadas y una mezcla de prendas en extremo chic, con otras en extremo deportivas.
Tommy Hilfiger is a hit every year and now I know why: He presented a fresh runway with a sporty air, but at the same time full of sophistication. There were certain little details that started to repeat themselves and therefore, began to mark the pattern as to what trends they shape on the runway. Here again we find pleated skirts and a mixture of clothes: on one end chic, on the other sporty.
Dos mundos en prinicipio opuestos, al fin se encontraron. Por ejemplo, pudimos ver abrigos y camisas en telas nobles, con aplicaciones de cuentas brillantes, faux fur o parches, con bomber jackets aglobadas y zapatillas con plataforma (habían unas preciosas! Que realmente poco y nada les tenían que envidiar al glamour de unos buenos stilettos). Todo dentro de un marco totalmente sesentero y setentero.
Two opposing worlds finally met. For example, we could see coats and shirts in noble fabrics, with applications of sparkling beads, faux fur or patches, with puffy bomber jackets and platform shoes (there were some lovely ones! Relatively little or nothing had them envying the glamour of some good stilettos). Everything was within a sixties and seventies frame.
En cuanto a los colores, fueron tres tonos los que más destacaron: el borgoña, rojo italiano y camel. En cuanto a las prendas, vienen aun con más fuerzas las capas, el faux fur (piel sintética), las faldas plisadas, los botones dorados, las líneas verticales suaves y el tweed.
With respect to the colors, there were three tones most highlighted: Burgundy, Italian red, and camel. In terms of the fabrics, layers, faux fur, pleated skirts, golden buttons, soft vertical lines and tweed are all still coming in style with full force.
Tommy Hilfiger lo hizo una vez más y de paso me sorprendió: lejos de ser la marca de corte preppy clásica norteamericana que había pensado, demostró que baraja un mundo de opciones con éxito, donde la sofisticación y las tendencias son estandarte. Juzguen ustedes mismos:
Tommy Hilfiger did it again, and it met me with surprise: Far from being the classic preppy North American brand that I had thought, he demonstrated that you can shuffle a world of options with success, where sophistication and trends are standard. Judge for yourselves:
